We are a 5* food-hygiene rated home-baking business, based in Cambridgeshire - ran by a Mother & Daughter duo, Ganene & Danielle.

Danielle (that’s me - helloooo!) can be found weekly at Chatteris Market on a Friday. I have a new menu every week there, and I highly recommend preordering for collection as I sell out quick - peep our FB to see each weeks new menu! 

Three years ago now (scary!!), I took the leap and quit my 9-5 in the NHS, to take The Cakery full-time. It has been a scary & exciting two years, definitely not without its challenges (my first operation, and my first broken bone  - infact I broke two at once)! I have poured my heart & soul into the business ever since, but when I have a 15 person queue on a Friday morning at Chatteris - it makes it all worth it!! 

Nene still works full-time, managing a Children’s home - not sure which job is more stressful, dealing with all of the trials and tribulations from that or having to deal with me and my lack of common sense …. (newsflash: I definitely peaked in high school!!).

We have always been ‘foodies’ - both going out to eat and cooking for every family Christmas or event (we have cooked a 15 course meal for Christmas before - totally bonkers!).  We had toyed for months about setting up our own baking business, and in the summer of 2021 we unfortunately lost our Mum & Nan, Jean. We held Jean’s wake at the local community hall, and did all of the catering ourselves. As the day went on, more and more people asked us who did the catering - and they were (pleasantly!!) surprised when we said we had done it all ourselves.

Reflecting back, that was the pivotal moment which gave us the nudge we needed, and after more months of planning and a kitchen renovation at Nenes, The Village Cakery was born!

We began taking orders in November 2021, and have had a really successful run so far in our local community -  with tonnes of markets & events under our belts, we have now expanded into catering, offering delicious hot and cold food, afternoon teas, dessert tables etc.

Our long-term goal would be to expand further, to allow us to have a professional kitchen/premises, rather than just our home one - and every order we receive is a step towards this, so thank you!
